Tanglewood Hollow
Colonial Living Day at Tanglewood Hollow (11/16)
Monday, November 16 | 10am–2pm
Ages 8+
Step back in time for a day of hands-on history at Tanglewood Hollow!
Our family has been involved in historical reenacting for years, and for this special program, we’re bringing some of that experience to Tanglewood Hollow. Dressed in period clothing, we’ll spend the day exploring what everyday life was like in colonial New England- not just by learning about it, but by trying it ourselves!
Throughout the day, children will roll up their sleeves and experience some of the skills, foods, chores, clothing, and pastimes that were part of daily life more than 200 years ago.
We’ll churn cream into fresh butter, bake colonial food to enjoy with it, taste and learn about the colonial teas that were hoisted overboard during the Boston Tea Party, try writing with a quill pen, explore traditional handwork and household skills, play old-fashioned games, and more.
Along the way, we’ll talk about where food came from, the work children were expected to do, what families made at home, what they purchased or traded for, and the many different experiences of people living in colonial New England.
This is history the Tanglewood Hollow way: hands-on, curious, messy, and meant to be experienced.
Children should bring a packed lunch. All other food tastings and program materials will be provided. Please leave a note if there are any food allergies.
