Tanglewood Hollow
Creature Connections: The Science Behind Pokémon
Class Details:
Mondays, 9:00–10:00am
September 14 – October 19
Ages 7–12
What if the creatures your child already loves could open the door to real science?
In this six-week class, we’ll use familiar Pokémon as a starting point to explore the natural world through a true naturalist lens. Each week, we’ll look closely at a handful of creatures, ask questions, make observations, and uncover the real animals, habitats, and survival strategies that may have inspired them.
This is not a Pokémon club. It’s a science class rooted in observation, curiosity, and hands-on learning.
Together, we’ll explore:
- What makes a species a species
- How animals are adapted to survive in different habitats
- Predator and prey relationships
- Defense strategies like camouflage, armor, and toxins
- Life cycles and how creatures grow and change over time
Each class will include a mix of discussion, comparison, hands-on activities, and field journal-style work. Students will be encouraged to think like naturalists, making careful observations and asking thoughtful questions as they connect fantasy creatures to real-world science.
In our final week, students will apply what they’ve learned to design their own creature, complete with realistic adaptations and a thoughtfully imagined habitat.
No prior Pokémon knowledge is needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
