Embark on a journey through the life and legacy of Anna Atkins, a pioneering naturalist and photographer, in our engaging class "Nature's Trailblazers: Exploring Naturalists in History." Designed for children ages 6-12, this class invites young adventurers to dive into the extraordinary world of Anna Atkins and her groundbreaking contributions to the field of photography.

Through an enchanting reading of "The Bluest of Blues: Anna Atkins and the First Book of Photographs," children will be captivated by Anna's story of scientific curiosity, artistic expression, and determination. Raised by her scientist father, Anna was immersed in the wonders of the natural world from an early age, cultivating a deep love for collecting and documenting specimens with remarkable accuracy.

During the class, children will have the opportunity to channel their inner Anna Atkins as they create their own cyanotypes, also known as sun prints. Using items from their personal nature collections, participants will learn how to use the power of sunlight to create beautiful and unique photographic prints. Each child will leave with their very own cyanotype kit, enabling them to continue their explorations and creative endeavors at home.

Please remember to bring an object or two from nature to use with your cyanotype kit, allowing each child to infuse their artwork with personal significance. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date will be scheduled to ensure an uninterrupted and enjoyable experience.
